Meroi Sauvignon 2022

 

Lemon and tropical fruits brush the tip of the nose for a moment.

Then guava and calm floral notes rise gently.  

 

First sip,  
a beautifully balanced impression.  

Fruit notes reminiscent of quince and guava, with a hint of vanilla bean.  

The texture on the palate is very smooth.  
The finish on the tongue and lips feels moist and lightly tingling, almost creamy.

Soft young grass and herbal nuances.  

 

It refreshes the nose while also carrying a certain weight.  

 

A subtle mix of mango peel and gentle mint appears — and it makes me wonder whether I would have recognized this as Sauvignon Blanc in a blind tasting.  


After ten minutes of opening, fresh and lightly sweet pineapple notes begin to appear.

The flavor and balance are so good that I found myself admiring it while drinking — the alcohol is barely noticeable.  

A touch of white pepper and herbs gives a cooling lift to the nose.  


After 1hour 20 minutes, passion fruit, jasmine, elderflower, young grass, and the slight bitterness of grapefruit peel all emerge.  

 

I tasted it at different chilling temperatures. When too cold, the acidity rises and the aromas soften, making the Sauvignon Blanc character show more subtly. It was best enjoyed while keeping just a moderate coolness.

Meroi Sauvignon 2022 is produced in the Friuli Colli Orientali DOC, located in the northeastern Italian region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia. As the name “Colli Orientali” or “Eastern Hills” suggests, the area is made up of rolling hills close to the Slovenian border. Geographically, it sits where cool air descends from the Alps and warm breezes rise from the Adriatic Sea. This combination creates strong diurnal shifts, an ideal condition for developing clear and expressive aromas in the grapes.  

 

The soil is the region’s signature Ponca, a mix of marl and clay that gives the wine a firm, structural backbone. Buttrio, in particular, is known for its many south- and southeast-facing slopes, producing Sauvignon Blanc with ripe fruit character and a rich texture.
