R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia Reserva 2010
Dark plum and a faint scent of blood.
A savory note reminiscent of pickled garlic and the spiciness of clove.
Behind it, subtle layers of vanilla, cocoa, and a hint of milk appear.

The acidity feels much higher on the palate than on the nose. Despite its tight body, the texture is quite smooth.
The acidity is strikingly high — not mouth watering in a delicious way, but rather sharply sour, evoking underripe plums, cherries, and green plums.
As it lingers, notes of tomato and dried chili emerge, followed by black pepper and clove. A touch of thyme and rosemary remains on the finish.
There’s also a nuance reminiscent of volcanic ash or basalt.
Even after sufficient breathing, the acidity remains pronounced.
Light hints of raspberry jam, dried plum, and cinnamon appear, though the fruit expression stops there.
It could shine with the right pairing, but on its own, it might feel a bit restrained. Pairs beautifully with juicy meats, especially roasted chicken or duck.

R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia Reserva 2010
Region | Spain > Rioja DOCa > Rioja Alta > Haro
Rioja Alta is located in the western part of Spain’s Rioja region.
Influenced by the Atlantic climate, it has relatively cool conditions. The predominant clay calcareous soil produces wines known for their high acidity, elegance, and long aging potential.
Haro, in particular, is the heart of Rioja wine production, home to many traditional wineries.
R. López de Heredia Viña Tondonia, founded in 1877 in Rioja Alta, is one of the region’s most iconic traditional wineries, guided by the philosophy of creating “wines that defy time.”
They minimize artificial temperature control and filtration, aging the wines for about six years in American oak barrels before additional cellaring for stabilization. Through long maturation and delicate blending, they embody the essence of traditional Rioja style.
The 2010 vintage reflects Rioja Alta’s characteristic structure and matured complexity, with excellent potential to age for more than ten years.
